Build a traceable sixteen-copper and four-fiber topology with Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX

Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX, part number 942170065, is the Hirschmann BRS40-16TX/4SFP managed industrial Ethernet switch described in the manufacturer configuration record. This twenty-port mixed-media version provides sixteen Gigabit RJ45 connections and four SFP positions. Procurement accuracy depends on separating the switch code from the optical-module bill of materials while preserving one topology drawing for both.

Define each optical path before choosing an SFP

Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX includes four 100/1000 Mbit/s SFP positions in two uplink groups. Those slots do not define the transceiver, connector, wavelength, fiber type or achievable distance. For each intended optical link, specify the module at both ends, the installed fiber path and the required rate. List the switch and the optical modules as separate purchasing lines so the offered scope can be checked.

During commissioning, record the fitted SFP reference, cable destination and normal link indication for every used slot. If an optical path later becomes unstable, this evidence helps the service team distinguish a transceiver, fiber, far-end or configuration issue. Keep that module schedule with Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX and part number 942170065.

Draw the topology before the cabinet is wired

Draw four optical uplinks and the local copper group before assigning physical interfaces on Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX. Mark which links serve individual machines, which connect to another switch and which participate in a resilience design. This exposes duplicate allocations and makes cable labels meaningful to the installation team. It also gives procurement a basis for checking whether the requested port mix matches the real network.

1. Identify every endpoint and network zone.
2. Assign the intended physical port and media.
3. Select the redundancy method only after the peer topology is known.
4. Test application communication and record the final path.

Map traffic paths before assigning VLANs

A switch with 20 physical interfaces can collect traffic from many controllers, operator stations and monitoring devices. Before deploying Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX, identify multicast sources, time-sensitive traffic, management traffic and any connection that carries several downstream devices. This makes VLAN, QoS, storm-protection and multicast settings responses to a documented need instead of isolated feature choices.

Review the traffic that converges on each upstream path and decide how congestion or a failed link should be observed. The BRS40 feature set provides management and diagnostic options, but the acceptance test still needs representative application communication. Save the results with part number 942170065, the final port map and the approved configuration.

Commission against the port schedule, not only link LEDs

Start acceptance of Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX with the label, cabinet installation and DC supply. Load or prepare the approved configuration, then connect equipment according to the port schedule. Confirm link rate and duplex, test the required application exchanges and verify the selected VLAN, monitoring and redundancy behavior. A green link indicator is only one observation in that sequence.

After testing, save the final configuration and record normal port status. Identify any unused or reserved interfaces and list fitted SFP modules where applicable. The resulting handover should make part number 942170065 and the complete Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX code traceable to the actual installed network.

Give maintenance one record for hardware and configuration

Keep one service record for Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX that joins the hardware label, port destinations, configuration backup and normal operating evidence. For mixed-media versions, add every fitted SFP and far-end interface. For all-copper versions, retain negotiated rate and cable identification. This creates a practical path from an alarm to the physical and configured link.

Document authorized changes with a date and reason. If a device is replaced, preserve both the removed and installed references and record any settings that changed. The full product code and part number 942170065 should remain visible so later troubleshooting does not confuse BRS40-16TX/4SFP with a nearby BOBCAT configuration.

Information that belongs in the quotation request

Send Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX, catalog Type BRS40-16TX/4SFP, part number 942170065, quantity and delivery destination in the inquiry. Include the required SFP references, fiber type, far-end interfaces and quantities. State the required operating environment, management functions, security policy, timing role and redundancy design where they affect acceptance. List accessories separately so the supplier can identify the complete scope.

Ask the supplier to show the exact offered code and document revision for Hirschmann BRS40-0020OOOO-STCY99HHSESXX.X.XX. For replacement work, attach the installed label and summarize any function that must be retained. A configuration-specific request tied to part number 942170065 is easier to compare than a generic search for a managed industrial Ethernet switch.
